My Big Coat of Secrets

I bought this giant blue coat two or three winters ago, and I basically lived in it year round. I loved the feeling of been gently hugged by a bear. It has deep pockets and just an overall protection vibes aura that I very much needed during the pandemic. This year, I bought another oversized blue coat, and added a neon orange beanie hat to the look… Like, you just could not miss me.

So, I had these idea of creating some sort of paper doll of me wearing this giant coat with my neon orange beanie, carrying secrets inside… but a paper doll wasn’t fun enough to make, because this coat just screams make something to honor me, you know? Anyway, I kept trying to figure out how I wanted to create this piece but kept procrastinating putting something on paper… until now!

I started sketching some quick ideas of how I could fold it to make if fun and interactive. It took several tries to figure out how to make it look fun. though I’m still trying to improve the shape… might need a third layer of paper. It’s never done done done.

But here it is… all the attempts. It was certainly fun creating this print piece. It could be a fun promo piece for potential illustration clients. Maybe if I can fold my resume into a one inch square to fit in the coat’s inner pocket, heh.

I created textures with acrylic to make the look even more special
