Fanciful Tomorrow

First project of 2020!
I was struggling over the holidays to feel inspired. Mainly because there was a lot of things happening, both at work and personally … so I just could not take a breather to get creative. However, one day for an isolated 4 hour period I forced myself to sit in front of my computer and make SOMETHING. Luckily, after about an hour of jumping from tab to tab, I finally entered work-mode and made about 18 patterns, 12 which were pretty cool (I know, tooting my own horn, heh). Those patterns, lucky enough to make the cut, have been added to my new collection on Spoonflower.

A bit after the holiday break, I quickly mocked up an outfit on Illustrator. Playing around with the different swatches I had created, I decided to make a coat and a dress (mainly bc those are the two things I have learned how to sew). I absolutely love patterns on patterns, so I’ll probably be making more combinations like these in the future. Perhaps venture into the pants world too.

Dress is done! I absolutely love how the pattern looks on this dress. I cut a line of the checkered pattern to make it look more “finished”.

I still struggle with sleeves. I have watched a couple of videos on how to attach them and I always end up messing one up. It’s that middle point by the armpit where it has that little peak, it’s a bitch… it only works on the second try, so that first sleeve is always a clusterfak. I either need more fabric or have too much left. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The coat came out soooo cute! However, made the neck too wide… still getting a hang of sticking to measurements. Maybe a button will fix the issue. Right now it looks more of a “boat neck” but it was 100% not intentional… haha
If you like what you see and what to give it a go, these are the two fabrics you need:
Dress: Pattern 5 on Silky Faille
Coat: Pattern 1 on Lightweight Cotton Twill

Until next time!
